WestJet and the Biggest Prize Wheel Ever

The 40″ Prize Wheel from PrizeWheel.com is big, but it is tiny compared to WestJet’s giant, circular light show that was on display last month.

To celebrate 21 years in business, and 12 of shuttling Canadians to Las Vegas, WestJet gave passengers on one flight a special game of chance… a giant spiraling light show lottery visible from 12,000 feet in the air.

The prize for one lucky flier was a two night-stay at the Venetian hotel in Sin City, a $2,500 shopping spree at the hotel shops, show tickets, and two round-trip tickets.

As the Boeing 737-800 passed overhead from Toronto to Vegas, a flight attendant invited passengers to look out the left-side windows. After a brief moment of suspense, the spectacle sprang to life, giving fliers a surprise prize wheel sweepstakes. The light show spanned across more than a kilometer of land, took months of planning, and more than a week of work in the Mojave Desert.

As a reward for the display of  over 4.5 million lumen on the wheel, WestJest didn’t walk away empty handed. The airline earned two Guinness World Records for the feat… largest light output from a projected image and largest circular projection.
